Dia 2-Cartagena, Colombia
On day two we ate breakfast at the hotel. We took a tour of Castillo San Felipe. This is the storngest, most powerful fort ever built by the Spaniards. I learned how to say ¿cuánto cuesta? which means, how much does that cost. It rained or, llovió, through out our tour, however it was okay because our tour was mostly inside. The fort was amazing! We then went to eat lucnh at La Viva. I ate Arepas de Choclo or sweet corn cakes with cheese. It was very good. We then went and checked out of our hotel and went to the airpot to fly to Medellin, Colombia. Our second day in Colombia was awesome. The castle was so pretty and I learned so much about the background of Colombia. I learned that Cartagena was founded in 1533 by Spanish Conquistador Explorers led by Pedro de Heredia. In months of their landing the had taken over and enslaved the native Calamari tribe. Cartagena became a very important port for precuious gems and minerals for the coffers of King Ferdinand. Because of the gems pirates and English war ships attacked Cartagena. King Ferdinand ordered the ciry to be fortified, creating Castillo San Felipe. It took 200 years and 245 tons of gold to build. Nowing all of this, it made me appriciate the hard work of all of the Sapainards it took to build the beautiful fort that I was looking at today!I got a dall from the souvenir shop, I love it!!
